A potent antioxidant small molecule aimed at targeting metal-based oxidative stress in neurodegenerative disorders.

چکیده
Metal-ion misregulation and oxidative stress have been linked to the progressive neurological decline associated with multiple neurodegenerative disorders. Transition metal-mediated oxidation of biomolecules via Fenton chemical reactions plays a role in disease progression. Herein we report the synthesis, characterization and antioxidant activity of 2; a pyclen derivative with enhanced antioxidant character.

Cinnamoyl-based Nrf2-activators targeting human skin cell photo-oxidative stress.
Strong experimental evidence suggests the involvement of photo-oxidative stress mediated by reactive oxygen species as a crucial mechanism of solar damage relevant to human skin photoaging and photocarcinogenesis. Based on the established role of antioxidant response element (ARE)-mediated gene expression in cancer chemoprevention, we tested the hypothesis that small molecule Nrf2-activators ma...

Dairy Consumption Linked to Better Brain Health • Oxidative stress has been implicated in aging and several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. • A new study finds that higher dairy consumption is associated with higher brain concentration of glutathione, a potent antioxidant that can help protect the brain from oxidative stress. • A follow-up inte...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Trehalose Against H2O2-induced Cytotoxicity and Oxidative Stress in PC-12 Cell Line and the Role of Heat Shock Protein-27
Background: Oxidative stress has been shown to be an important factor, which plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. Heat Shock Protein-27 (HSP-27) has been implicated in antioxidant responses against oxidative stress. Trehalose is a natural disaccharide widely used in a variety of food products with demonstrated protective effects against several neurodegen...
متن کاملMinding metals: tailoring multifunctional chelating agents for neurodegenerative disease.
Neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease are associated with elevated levels of iron, copper, and zinc and consequentially high levels of oxidative stress. Given the multifactorial nature of these diseases, it is becoming evident that the next generation of therapies must have multiple functions to combat multiple mechanisms of disease progression. Metal-chelating age...
متن کاملBimodal-hybrid heterocyclic amine targeting oxidative pathways and copper mis-regulation in Alzheimer's disease.
Oxidative stress resulting from metal-ion misregulation plays a role in the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). This process includes the production of tissue-damaging reactive oxygen species and amyloid aggregates. Herein we describe the synthesis, characterization and protective capacity of the small molecule, lipoic cyclen, which has been designed to target molecular features of AD. Thi...
